Restaurant insurance news - Survey highlights hygiene
The importance of restaurant insurance for Chinese takeaways has been highlighted with the release of a study, which shows that 55% of these eateries fail to meet basic hygiene standards.
However, they were not the only kind of restaurant in need of ensuring they have sufficient restaurant insurance to cover a poor hygiene record; 53% of kebab restaurants and 48% of curry houses also failed to meet basic hygiene standards.
"A combination of culture and language leads to poor hygiene scores in Indian and Chinese restaurants," commented a spokesperson from Transparency Data, the company which carried out the survey.
However, the survey provided some good news for other types of restaurants. Only one in four fish and chip restaurants failed hygiene tests, while, for Italian restaurants, at one in five, the figure was even more encouraging.
Considering that a poor hygiene record can be a major factor in increasing the cost of the public liability aspect of a restaurant insurance premium, the survey has helped underline the importance of good restaurant cleanliness.
